Screen mesh types: the menu, in plain English

Every enclosure in a reel like this made a mesh decision, usually invisibly. It is worth making yours on purpose.

• 18/14 fiberglass - the Florida standard: 18 strands per inch by 14, stops mosquitoes, best airflow and view
• 20/20 no-see-um mesh - a tighter weave for lots near water or pasture where biting midges laugh at standard screen
• Pet screen - vinyl-coated polyester, several times tougher, for the lower panels dogs and cats test
• Solar and privacy meshes - denser weaves that cut glare and heat on brutal western exposures
• Meshes mix and match by panel: pet screen low, no-see-um on the breeze side, standard everywhere else

How to actually read before and after photos

Transformation reels are marketing, but they are also evidence if you read them like an estimator. Look for the same camera angle in both shots, so nothing is hidden by framing. Check the edges and transitions - where the enclosure meets the house, where kick plate meets deck - because that is where craftsmanship lives. Straight screen lines, uniform spline, and clean fastener rows tell you about the crew; a swept slab tells you about the cleanup. And ask whether the company will give you addresses or names from its reel: real projects survive follow-up questions.
