Pool Cage Rehab, Step by Step: Rusted Screws Out, Stainless In
Johnny walks this rehab on camera: the main structure stays, and the crew will "take out all the nasty rusted screws," add new stainless steel ones, pressure wash the frame, add a kick plate, and replace the screen - "make this thing look as good as new."

Why fasteners are the first thing to fail in Florida
The screws that hold an enclosure together live in the hardest environment on the structure: rain, irrigation overspray, pool chemistry drifting on the breeze, and humidity all year. Ordinary coated screws surrender their coating in a few seasons, and once rust starts, it streaks the frame and hollows the fastener from the inside. That is why a proper rehab swaps every screw for stainless steel rather than spot-replacing the ugly ones - on a structure this fastener-dense, the screws you cannot see are the same age as the ones you can.
The maintenance rhythm that keeps a cage young
- Rinse or soft-wash the frame a couple of times a year; grime holds moisture against the finish
- Walk the walls each spring: press panels for loose spline, and eyeball fastener heads for rust bloom
- Keep sprinklers from soaking the same posts every night - constant wetting is the corrosion accelerator
- Clear the super gutter and any roof gutters so water leaves the structure instead of sitting on it
- Fix one torn panel now instead of five later; openings invite wasps and let debris work on its neighbors
